Interviews

Interviews

A few years ago I discovered Podcasts and they have changed my life for the better in so many ways. I have particularly enjoyed listening to Kista Tippet’s interviews with a diverse array of people in the ‘On Being’ Podcast. Tippet always starts her interviews by enquiring into the person’s religious or spiritual background, howver they define it. After that the interview can go anywhere.

I got to thinking about how much we all love ‘We are Ilam’. Every year we pore over the new edition and discover new things about the people we thought we knew and marvel at how people age in photos over the years. I wondered about creating an Ilam Podcast where we can all share a little bit more about ourselves and build even stronger connections with each other, an audio ‘We are Ilam’. Governance liked the idea so I tried it out with a couple of houseguests, and then a few more and it seemed to work.

Over time the project evolved. Everyone gets asked the same ten questions. It’s very low tech, one take with no editing, extremely low production values. Just like the barstool, we keep it honest and we keep it brief. (some keep it briefer than others)

It’s not a Podcast because we don’t necessarily want the whole world to have access to it, the interviews are on a hidden page meaning only regular Ilamites will have access. Never-the-less we make sure everyone interviewed understands this is going on the World-wide web so if you really don’t want Super Sleuth Aunty Elspeth to know about that incident with her cat when you were eight years old – don’t mention it on this recording!

These interviews are a gift from each person interviewed. We hope you enjoy listening to these as much as we enjoyed making them.
