We just had a lovely weekend away at Glenroy for the Ilam Church Camp.
Here are few of my reflections and noticings…
- The weather was mint and camps are always more fun with good weather.
- The Blakie’s are the most photogenic family at Ilam.
- Seeing people using their gifts and talents is a joy, for example, Jeremy’s photographic skills taking fun pictures of dress ups and dancing.
- Sleeping in a bunk room means you are unaware of Norwest gales. Sleeping in a tent means you’re very aware of Norwest gales.
- Having time and space for conversation and hanging out together is a great way to deepen relationships and get to know each other.
- Banana is the yummiest food to dehydrate.
- A community with kids, youth, young adults, adults and older people is vibrant and life-filled.
- Ilam puts on an excellent camp (thanks camp committee, especially Mel for holding it all together and Clare for the yummy food).
- Thinking about stones and flow in the rivers of our lives are excellent metaphors (especially with hydrologists and geologists around).
- The kids are amazing on stilts and love nerf guns.
- Dancing, drinking hot drinks, eating good food, having good conversations, getting involved with challenges, doing duties and just hanging out together is a great way to spend a weekend.
- We can learn so much from each other, for example looking through Marcos’ telescopes, dehydration classes, and learning about learning Te Reo Māori.
- Op shopping and back yard cricket fill Ilamites with joy.
We missed those of you who couldn’t make it or who aren’t really in to camps and I hope there will be more chances for conversation and hanging out together throughout this coming year.
Thanks heaps
Helen.
