Musing

In the last couple of weeks I have been thinking about IBY Limitless – the youth group on Thursday nights. It’s a great group to be a part of, full of fun and energy, and the “kids” (who are mostly taller than me!) are enthusiastic and pretty much up for anything. We generally joke around playing some silly games for an hour and then have a shorter chat or “God slot” before supper.

Last term we were telling “seed stories” which are ideas that had small and humble beginnings but grew into huge things – for example, loaning money to the poor for microfinance projects, Bob Geldoff’s Feed the World/Christmas song, the civil rights movement in the States, and the 40 hour famine which began in the early 1970’s in Canada with one small group of kids but now is an annual event in many countries. Most of you will know that we ran an IBY sleepover for the 40 hour famine in June, and our kids raised over $2000!

Following on from that, we have also had a brainstorming session about ways that we could raise some money for some of the people Missionscope support. There are quite a few who are keen to hold a garage sale (at 51 Ilam road) – probably at the end of this term. So watch this space as we would really like you all to start putting aside surplus stuff to donate for it 🙂

Meanwhile this term we are going to focus on things Jesus said – thinking about how His words might shape our response to stuff like bullying, consumerism, self image, homelessness… I’m not sure how it will exactly pan out, but I am quite excited to see how God is working in these kids. And how through them, God is also working in me.

PS. If anyone is interested in being involved, please let us know (Natz, Mike M, Mike S and Tjun).
